Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs: Hard boiled eggs can be a tricky yes so simple ting to make. There are so many ways to make a good hardboiled egg yet people google it every single day. Before I started making my hardboiled eggs in the Instant Pot I bought one of those Egg Timers. I like the egg timers. You plop it into the pan with your eggs and as they are cooking the color on the timer changes letting you know at what stage of cooking your eggs are in; soft boiled, medium boiled etc. I don’t always have the time to sit there and watch my eggs boil you know what I mean?
After getting the Instant Pot, I began experimenting with cooking just about anything in there. We cook meat, veggies and yes I hard boil eggs in there. I couldn’t believe it either. So here you go, put in 1 cup of water into the pot. Them place a trivet or in my case a Metal Veggie Steamer in the pot and add in my eggs. We eat a lot of eggs in my house and our preferred brand by a long shot is Vital Farms Eggs. They have the most wonderful pasture raised eggs. The yolks have the most amazing orange color to them and they taste delicious.
Anyway back to hard boiling. After I place the eggs in, I close the lid making sure that the vent spout is set to seal and I turn the Instant Pot to manual setting and set my time for 7 min. Now walk away. No really. It will take a few minutes for the pressure cooker to get up to pressure anyway.
Once you hear the chime of the Instant Pot telling you that it is done cooking, grab an oven mitt or a kitchen towel and turn the steam valve on the lid to vent. Be careful There will be VERY hot steam coming from this little valve so please do not burn yourself.
Once you have release all the pressure and you are able to open the lid, remove the hot eggs from the Instant Pot and place them in a bowl of cold water. I personally don’t leave my eggs in the cold water for very long. I leave them in just long enough to not burn my little finger tips because I have found that if you peel your eggs while they are still warm you have a better chance of the egg white not sticking to the shell.
Once you have peeled your eggs you can to whatever the heck you want with them. 7 minutes seems to be the just right amount of time for the perfect hard boiled egg. As a result, the yolks are cooked all the way but not over cooked to where there is a grey ring around it.
We use hard boiled eggs in so many different ways around here. Here are a few of them
- Easy grab and go snack
- Egg salad
- Tuna egg salad
- To top a green salad
- Deviled eggs (one of our favorites)
So in an egg shell, (I think the phrase is “in a nutshell” ) but whatever, the Instant Pot makes hard boiling eggs so freaking simple! Let’s face it, no one likes to stand there and watch water boil.
- As many eggs as you want
Place 1 cup of water in the Instant Pot
Put your trivet in the pot so the eggs are NOT sitting in the water
Place eggs on the trivet
Close the Instant Pot and set steam valve to seal
Set Instant Pot to Manual setting
Set timer for 7 min
Once the timer alerts you that it is done cooking, carefully with an oven mitt on your hand turn the steam valve to vent
After venting remove hot eggs and place them in a bowl of cool water
Peel eggs and enjoy!
